Question fatigue
Overview
Question fatigue (being worn out by answering questions) refers to a state where dealing with the questions that arrive in your question box becomes a mental or time burden, and your motivation to answer drops. One common pattern is that you enjoyed answering when you first opened your question box, but it gradually turns into a sense of duty like "the questions are piling up again" or "I have to answer," and in the end you leave your question box untouched.
What causes question fatigue
There are three main causes of question fatigue. First, the number of questions goes beyond what you can handle. As your followers grow, so does the number of questions, and you run out of time to answer all of them carefully. Second, similar questions keep repeating. Answering the same question over and over is boring, and the quality of your answers tends to drop as well.
Third, negative questions build up. When harassment or critical questions are mixed in, just opening your question box becomes stressful. Even if they make up only 5% of the total, negative questions tend to stick in your memory and can make your impression of the whole question box worse.
How to deal with question fatigue
The basic way to deal with it is to tell yourself, "I don't have to answer every question." A question box is run out of the owner's goodwill, and answering is not a duty. You can answer only the questions you want to answer and let the rest go.
Setting a pace for answering also helps. If you set rules like "up to 3 a day" or "answer them all at once on the weekend," you're less likely to feel rushed even when questions pile up. There is also the option of closing your question box for a while (pausing new questions). You can reopen it once you've rested and your energy has come back.
Tips for keeping it going
The tip for keeping a question box going happily for a long time is not to aim for perfection. You don't need to answer every question carefully with a long reply. If you vary your answers, answering light questions lightly and deep questions deeply, the burden tends to go down.
To build up your tolerance for negative questions, making use of content filtering works well. A question box is a tool for having fun, not something to keep going while putting up with pain.
